A New Era Dawns

Good Night! I say to the setting sun
Adieu to the seasons gone by.
With you, oh past, deep wrinkles have formed
Hairs are grayed, Bones swelled,
And even the wind aches with pain,
Yes age has drawn its etchings
As we watched helplessly with furrowed brow,
The transgressions of yesterday.

Perhaps a part of the natural order,
or so a wise sage would speak.

And how can I speak ill of you, oh wretched past
For you have brought profound meaning to the music
Which shall ring out in the new morn
As a thousand million peacocks trumpeting across the desert
"Behold! A Brand New Day"

On the historic win of President Elect Barack Obama.

Simply beautiful, Cat. Thank you. May God bless President Barack Obama and family. May God bless the people of America. May God bless the people of the world. We all have tremendous opportunity right now to change the world for the better. Good night. Many dawns are on the horizon.

Hooray! And what beautiful words you have. And how odd isn't it? All the time, us sponges, absorbed by memories. And behold! So much more time to create, to move forward! TO LIFE!

Historic indeed! I am so happy for you all, and and for the whole world.

Judith, Ho! Many beautiful blessed dawns.

Arielle, TO LIFE! Indeed, I am so proud of your generation, first time voters. You have made your voices heard like never before in my lifetime. And what a sweet and beautiful call.

AC, AHHHHHHH!!!!!

meant to tell you that my last thought before nodding off last night was a"thousand million peacocks trumpeting across the desert". Lovely, lovely. We have lots of peacocks over at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, including a white one,so especially easy for me to "see" peacocks but a thousand million is rather mind defying......and an exceptional sight to behold. Loveliest of visions though.

Cat,
Your work is beautiful. How did you get started and what inspires you?

Mom's friend, I think peacocks are the most amazing bird, and they have a lot of significance for me. We also happen to have some peacock neighbors that come visit the yard from time to time. They are quite vociferous. A thousand million of them calling at once would be mind blowing!

Regina Daniels, Welcome to my blog! I've been writing poetry all my life in lieu of journaling. Photography has also been a lifelong passion. My journals are all filled with poems that never see the light of day, so I'm finding this blogging to be very satisfying. What inspires me the most is beauty, and I think poetry is one way to take ugly thoughts and situations, and try to transform them into something beautiful and contemplative and more universally accessible. You wouldn't want to read my rants, believe me. :-)

Your work is definitely inspiring and I will be visiting regularly to "take advantage" of the view. :) I've always admired poets such as yourself. You have a gift--an eloquent way with words. I was an art major in college and studied photography for a little while. I now regret not pursuing it, but it will never leave my heart. Life's plan always seems to work out somehow...maybe just not the way you planned it. Great work!!

Hi, Cat. It is so nice to meet you and read your beautiful poem. The first thing that really struck me about the poem are the wonderful details and play on words.

I also love how this poem can be about different things. You dedicate it to the election of Obama, and yes, I see that clearly now. You did a great job with that. As I was reading it, I was thinking of other stories in my life. Of course, each reader brings her/his own interpretation to the mix, but I love when a poem takes me off in different directions. Beautiful work. I'm so glad you said hello:)

Hi Julie, I'm glad you came by! I can't get Ms. Maudene out of my head these last few days! Anyway, I try to make my poems do exactly what you mentioned, which is to be universal enough that they can be accessible beyond the scope of what may have inspired me to write them. Sometimes successful and sometimes not. I'm glad to know it had that effect on you. And I'm so glad to have found your poems! I am loving this wonderful online writing community.
