Yesterday Pt. 1

This is the first episode in a four part series using song lyrics from the 60's and 70's to explore a rekindled friendship from the past.

Hello its me,

Welcome to the machine, it’s been a long time running, it appears to be a long time gone. I’m tasting the smell of toast as the butter runs, here, there and everywhere. I’d love to change the world, climb a stairway to heaven, find myself knockin on heaven’s door, but I don’t know what to do. I learned the truth at 17, that I was born to run, born to be wild; that’s the way I always heard it should be! But now I’ve gone and blown it all away, running with the devil, don’t take a slice of my pie the landslide will bring it down.

(It’s a little bit funny…yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away now I feel like makin’ love. I’m a gypsy acid queen, feel me, touch me, I’m hot blooded, touch it and see!)

You’ve got me hanging on the telephone…we are the champions, looks like muskrat love! Don’t go breaking my heart, we’ve only just begun to live. Baby, I’ve been learnin’, you need schoolin’ you got me in a spotlight, dancing in the moonlight. Darlin’ can’t you hear me SOS? My aim is true. I’m so lonely, sometimes I feel like I’m dyin’, but I’m as free as a bird now, I am woman hear me roar.

I feel love, I need a hero, I want you to show me the way. Won’t you take me to funky town? Burn down the mission if you want to stay alive. We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl.

Wish you were here,
Your song

You are T.N.T!!! This certianly smells like teen spirit. :D :D

And I just can't stop falling in love with you! :P

You seriously are the Princess of the universe you know. Romeo is bleading in your love.

For the love of god never stop writing till you are 6 feet under.

And since you say best when you say nothing at all,so Just nod if you can hear me. :D

Please forgive me for I walk a lonely road on the thin line between love and hate. And I don;t want to die unforgiven.

I love that thing you do. :)

Ummmmmm...Ummmmmmmmm, well, you certainly know how to grab someone's attention--and so beautifully, too!

As for 6 ft under, my wish is for
someone to put a pen and paper in with you...when that time arrives, about 90 years from now.

WOW! WHEW! I gotta move on.....

I would never have patience for this kind of research, but then I completely boggle at the idea you carry all these lyrics in your head...because of course I recognize most of them once they are down on the screen like that. I heard it through the grapevine that you can do this. Prolly why you left a good job in the city, took a little trip down the mighty Mississip'. There's a place for us, somewhere, so blackbird singin in the dead of night, take these wings and learn to fly.

Bravo, Miss Catherine - love all the lyric lines... very cool.

Cat - sometimes I think if I could pick all the song lyrics from the crevices of my brain, I'd have room to think!

Jason, PACKED with memories. :-)

Steve E, Good idea! Then my ghost will write on my blog, that would be too freaky! :-)

Jorc, isn't that just about the best song ever? For lyrics anyway, that song has really had much meaning for so many reasons.

Christopher, that is so funny you would mention the research, because I almost did look up some songs, but somehow managed to drag up pretty much all of these (with a little help from my (friends) brother who had a few of the lines in his head that happened to be just perfect at just exactly the right time).

K, thanks!

Karen, I know, huh? Sometimes I can't get through a conversation without singing umpteen songs that say what I or the other person is trying to say. I don't do that so much anymore because of the annoyance factor. Should they be cleared from our heads, or, on the other hand, are we partially what we are JUST BECAUSE of those lyrics? Did they help to build us? Hmmmmm....

Linda, Thanks! So great to see you sweetie. :-)

You really amaze with what you come up with.

This is awesome, Cat! You've got my head swirling now...but in a good kinda way:) This would also be great for groups to do as a found poem.

This is one of the many reasons why we love you. Thanks so much for the fun read. I was in need of it today!

This is so inspired!! And it hits just the right chord(s) for me. :D Brilliant, Cat. It really does all hang together to form a song all your own.

I'm reading an awesome book right now as part of my novel research. It's called, Musicophilia, by Oliver Sacks. Gives new insight into the power of those melodies and words on our sponge-like brains.

(If music be the food of love, play on...)

Dear Julie, I'm so glad this lifted your mood. It sure was fun to write. If only I could stop having all the songs swirling around my head now!

Calli, Vesper, :-) I'm glad you enjoyed it, I hope it took you back a bit!

Sarah, I am so intrigued! Can't wait until you can spill more! Sounds like a very interesting book, I'm going to have to check it out. I love that kind of stuff.

The only problem with having written this is all the ones that got left out are now flooding my mind and begging to be included. Arghhhh! Perhaps I will do a sequel...an answer, heh heh.

Joaquin, cool! Amazing the power of songs, eh? Especially the ones from when we were kids...

I just am not able to get off these lines...It sounds so nice:)

Its beautiful cathy...simply beautiful! Wonderful lyrical quality:)

Deepa, all of the words from these two letters are from popular songs of the 60's and 70's. Mostly the 70's. That's when I was a teenager, so they kind of left their imprint. The two lost souls line comes from the Pink Floyd song Wish You Were Here. Thanks Deepa!
